Additional Information:

Confederate Infantry Soldier Enlisted May 15, 1861, Pineville, Ala. Served 
with Company "C" (was Co. "D") of the Alabama 5th infantry. Hugh enlisted 
as a Private but reached the rank of Sergeant.

He was captured in the 2rd battle of the Wilderness on May 5th or 8th, 1864.
He was held prisoner at Point Lookout, Maryland from May until August when
he was transferred to Elmira, New York from August 15th until his release
June 14, 1865. 

In the photo below Hugh is wearing a Confederate medal with a picture of
R. E. Lee below it.
