TOPIC/CONCEPTS TO BE COVERED THIS WEEK:

 

Introduction to classroom and other students.  Introduction to Biology, characteristics of living things, the scientific method, and laboratory equipment and safety.

STATE AND DISTRICT

OBJECTIVE(S) RELATED TO THE TOPIC:

 

1a.  Demonstrate the proper use and care for scientific equipment used in biology.

1b.  Observe and practice safe procedures in the classroom and laboratory.

1c.  Apply the components of scientific processes and methods in the classroom and laboratory investigations.

2a.  Identify life processes and characteristics and explain how they contribute to an organism’s survival.

Test 1 Friday, August 23, 2001.

SUMMARY OF OBJECTIVES AND POSSIBLE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS:

 

MONDAY:

 

Students will complete information sheets.  Teacher will explain/demonstrate rules of classroom, classroom procedures, and acceptable behavior. 

 

 

TUESDAY:

 

Students will be distributed textbooks.  Teacher will review lesson plans and website.

 

WEDNESDAY:

 

Students will discuss why Biology is important.  Students will view video clips on Biologists at Work and How Organisms Interact and receive notes on Chapter One Section One. 

 

HW:  Define Key Terms page 3.

 

THURSDAY:

 

Bellringer:  Characteristics of Life.  Students will compile a list of characteristics of living things.  Students will visit lab and be briefed on safety procedures.  Students will begin Learning Experience 1 "Living Proof".

HW:  Complete Stop and Think Questions

 

FRIDAY:

 

Students will discuss homework and complete Learning Experience 1.
