Elaborate period-correct
sets will be one of the stars for the PSU Theatre production of Noel Cowards
comedy, "Hay Fever," which runs Oct. 20-22 in Pittsburgs Memorial
Auditorium.
The sets and
costumes for Hay Fever will be incredible,"said Director Cynthia Allen.
"The period is 1925, and we will have all original and period-correct
costumes thanks to our costume designer, Lisa Quinteros. The set includes
marble tile floors and stained glass accents. Our new set designer, Dan Williams,
has really outdone himself on this set."
Allen added that
the attention to detail includes furniture that was upholstered in period
correct fabrics by PSU Theatre students.
"Hay Fever,"
Allen said, is a very famous comedy that is a great deal of "over-the-top"
fun. The play was written in three days by the then 25-year-old playwright
after a visit to America. Since then, it has become one of Cowards most
enduring works and is a popular choice for theater groups across the U.S.
In "Hay
Fever," Coward sends the audience on holiday with the eccentric and somewhat
self-absorbed Bliss family. The vacation is complicated by the arrival of
a number of guests who have been invited by various members of the family.
The romantic entanglements that ensue form the basis for much of the humor
in the play.
"Hay Fever"
will be staged nightly at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $6
for PSU faculty and staff and $5 for persons under 17 or over 65. PSU students
with a valid ID are admitted without charge.
